ABYC Releases New Tools to Help with US and International Compliance

ANNAPOLIS, Md. – The American Boat and Yacht Council (ABYC) has announced the release the ABYC Compliance Audit Tool and the Global Compliance Guideline to assist members in compliance both domestically and internationally.

The new ABYC Compliance Audit Tool itemizes the major requirements to be considered when assessing compliance to the ABYC standards in an easy to use checklist format for clean and organized technical documentation.

“This tool is a great asset to any manufacturer building to the ABYC standards,” said Christina Paul, partner in the Miami office of the global law firm K&L Gates LLP. “It helps keep compliance records accurate and complete which can prove invaluable when they are used in litigation.”

The ABYC Compliance Audit Tool is available to members at no cost. Visit www.abycinc.org/compliancetool to download.

ABYC also release its Global Compliance Guideline which keeps an up-to-date guide on product compliance requirements for recreational craft to over 60 countries throughout the world. This makes it easy for members to quickly reference the known points of the given country to better guide them through what is needed to successfully export their product.

“ABYC is dedicated to supporting our members in global product compliance requirements,” said Craig Scholten, ABYC technical vice president. “This collection of information assists builders to better understand the unique or additional product compliance requirements for various markets around the world.”

The guideline is a living document that is maintained by ABYC thorough the efforts of the U.S. Technical Advisory Group (TAG). ABYC is the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) accredited TAG representative for the United States.

The Global Compliance Guideline is available to members on the ABYC Standards Library. Visit www.abycinc.org/standardslibray to log in.
